Juicer vs blender vs mixer vs grinder vs food processor

Food processor

A juicer is used for making juice. For example you can put slices of fruits & vegetables and it will make juice. It works on the principle of 'Divide & rule', i.e., It separates the pulp from the juice & keeps it in a separate compartment. The end result is a thin juice without any pulp (depend on type of juicer).

A Blender works on the principle of 'unity is strength', i.e., It does not separates pulp from fruit's juice , it blends them, so you get a thicker juice. The blender makes smoothies, cocktail, ice cream & sauces for you. Powerful blenders can also be used to grind up nuts and for crushing ice.

A mixer is used for mixing and beating the things. For example you can mix spices or beat the eggs. If mixer’s beaters are replaced by a dough hook it can also be used to knead.

A grinder is used for grinding things like spice.

[NOTE: Mixer grinder can perform both of the above function and if a brand offers a juicer blade & jar, It can also make juice. Some mixer grinder can also chop & knead]

A food processor has changeable blades (and jar) which can be used for slicing/chopping vegetables & fruits, shredding or grating cheese or vegetables, juicing, kneading, whisking, pureeing , and grinding.




Conclusion: It all depends on what blade & jar it has. The boundary between them has got blurred, every manufacturer wants to sell more & whichever naming system brings him more sale in a particular region, he goes for it. But generally, (& because I have to tell some differences between them) All except food processor can do only one or two thing So you can say juicer, mixer, grinder & blenders are either batsman or bowler whereas food processor is an All-rounder!

[Note: Some manufacturers market their product as food processor but they can only do one or two things. Before buying, Do check for what  functions it serves & what blades, containers, attachment it has along with warranties & after sale service.]

However, do note that although some food processors & some mixer grinder can do more than one thing that doesn't mean they are best at it. If you want best then you have to renounce one-for-all attitude, e.g., even grinders are specific, determined by their roles like spice grinder, coffee grinder etc.
